Why solitude is freedom, not failure.
We’re told endlessly that humans are a “social tribe,” wired for closeness, built for the village. Refuse to play along and you’re suspect. Step outside the group and you’re branded antisocial, broken—even dangerous.
But what if it’s the other way around?
We’ve built a world where solitude is treated as a flaw. From childhood, we’re trained to tether our worth to approval, to measure ourselves against the other, to compete and “win” in a pre-scripted game. We’re programmed to chase sameness as if it were salvation. The rules, the dogma—they’re not about connection; they’re about control. Power wrote this script, and now it hums through glowing screens, curated feeds, and hollow self-help mantras. We live in each other’s pockets, breathing each other’s breath, hypnotized by staged realities. The “tribe” has become an ego glitch, a feedback loop of fear, comparison, and artificial belonging.
Strip it all back: we’re born alone, gasping our first breath into duality, and one day we’ll exhale our last, slipping back into singularity, alone. Between those two breaths lies the strange adventure of consciousness, dressed up as individuality seeking connection.
Our culture screams about belonging, but the raw truth of existence is solitary. And that’s not tragedy; it’s clarity. Solitude isn’t punishment, it’s freedom in disguise. You don’t need a crowd to feel alive.
