A Mala experiment — alignment as nervous-system work
After a week of practicing Generosity (Open Hands), I noticed something new.
When you give, your chest opens — but to stay open, you need a strong back too.
That’s what this next bead is about: Clean Spine.
It’s not about being “good.”
It’s about feeling steady and honest in your body — the moment when what you think, what you say, and what you do all match.
When those three line up, you feel solid — like you can breathe all the way down your back.
When they don’t, the breath gets tight, or you start to slump a little, like your body knows you’re out of sync.
A clean spine means staying true to yourself, even when it’s hard.
It’s saying what you really mean.
It’s telling the truth kindly.
It’s standing tall instead of curling up to fit in.
The world can feel full of noise — people arguing, showing off, pretending to be perfect.
It’s easy to twist yourself to please them.
But a clean spine is your way to stay real.
Each day, notice:
when you say “yes” but want to say “no,”
when you go quiet because you’re scared to speak up,
when you pretend you don’t care but actually do.
Then stop. Take one slow breath.
Feel it move up your back.
That’s your reset.
You don’t have to be perfect.
Just come back to standing tall — again and again.
That’s what a clean spine means.
Mantra for Bead Two:
I stand in what’s true.
I let my breath lift me.
I meet the day upright.

Exercises — choose three; practice seven days
(Do them bodily. Notice. No report required.)
- Straight-Back Breath (9×) — Sit tall. Inhale from base to crown; exhale, soften the jaw and shoulders. Feel the lift without tension.
- Truth Check — Before you speak or agree, pause. Ask: “Is this true for me?” Then act from the answer.
- Mirror Hold — Meet your own eyes for thirty seconds each morning. No fixing, no judgment. Just presence.
- Small Correction — Notice one moment each day you bend away from yourself. Uncurl. Realign. Breathe.
- Slow Walk — Take a short walk with full attention on your spine. Sense the invisible thread holding you upright.
- Integrity Note — Write one sentence at night about where you stood straight — or where you didn’t. No story, just the fact.
- Clean Spine Breath (Bedtime) — Lying down, breathe up the spine nine times, slow and steady. Let the breath sweep the day’s residue clear.
Pick three. Practice seven days.
Watch the spine and the impulse to fold.
Notice what steadies, notice what wobbles.
The experiment is honest with or without witness.
